Integrated Services Network

We provide representative payee and money management services as part of the Integrated Services Network. Some clients are required by Social Security or the Veterans Administration to have a representative payee. Other clients are voluntary.

For any client who receives a check from Social Security or the Veterans Administration, we arrange for direct deposit of their check to an account at Wells Fargo Bank (the 1266 Market Street branch, in San Francisco). For clients receiving CAAP, unemployment, state disability, workers’ compensation, or other wages, checks may either be sent or brought to us. We then deposit those checks at Wells Fargo.

From the Wells Fargo account, we pay the client’s rent and other bills that the client has authorized us to pay. Each client’s remaining funds are disbursed in the form of checks that the client may cash, free of charge, at the 1266 Market Street branch.

Lutheran Social Services also helps clients set financial goals and assists them with budgeting, entitlements, referrals for legal and civil rights representation, and coordination with other supportive services.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Have very low income;
  • Be either formerly homeless, as defined by Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and a resident of one of the buildings where LSS provides services, or currently homeless by HUD’s definition;
  • Be over 18 years of age; and
  • Have a case manager, either at the housing site or from an outside service provider, who will provide more extensive case management services.
