Support Services are provided by staff trained in working with people who are homeless and people with disabilities. Services are flexible, responsive and accessible, and are available to program participants but are not mandatory. These services may include:
- Housing - LSS will provide access to a wide array of accessible
permanent supportive housing options including: one-bedroom, two-bedroom
and shared housing options. These housing options will be close to a
business corridor, within 5 miles of a community college, near public
transportation and near a one-stop career center. LSS will provide rent
subsidies for program participants in accordance with fair market rates
and will work to assure participants in accordance with fair market
rates and will work to assure participant's self-sufficiency through
attainment of Housing Choice vouchers or a livable wage job.
- Emergency food - staff will provide emergency food supplies for
youth while working with them on developing a longer-term plan to access
food supplies such as, food stamps and other emergency food services.
- Clothing, health/hygiene supplies other material goods - staff will
provide climate appropriate/emergency clothing
and other supplies to foster youth while developing a plan to work with
local churches, businesses and community groups to donate personal
hygiene supplies, clothing, furniture, and other household items. Staff
will also have funds available for additional items.
- Educational Services - independent living/life skills; problem
solving skills; nutrition/food safety; stress management; educational
workshops (poison control, first aid/CPR); GED tutoring; educational
assessment; employment preparation classes; and education and job
training referrals.
- Therapeutic Services: intensive casework/therapeutic support;
substance abuse and co-dependency groups; and referral to mental health
providers.
- Transportation - LSS staff will work with foster youth to determine
and develop a plan that addresses the type of transportation that best
suits their individual needs. Resources may include: coordination of
ride sharing, gas vouchers, bus passes, light rail tickets, taxi fares,
bicycle purchase and assistance attaining a car.
- Recreation - staff will assist youth in identifying recreational activities that they are interested in, resources for accessing the services and short-term funding if necessary.
