Mission Statement
With a broad mission to respond to the biblical mandates of compassion and justice, to affirm the inherent worth of all people and to prevent and alleviate human suffering, Lutheran Social Services of Northern California (LSS) is the social services arm of two denominations, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and their member congregations.
LSS offers the hope of lives transformed to people of all faiths (or no faith) who are vulnerable because of homelessness, mental illness, addiction or disaster. Our mission is to provide services to the public at large, throughout a service area that encompasses Northern California, with offices and programs in Sacramento, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa and San Joaquin counties.
We provide case management and support services in four permanent supportive housing sites in San Francisco, as well as to individuals in twelve additional supportive housing sites in Contra Costa, Sacramento and San Joaquin counties.
We also provide Representative Payee/Money Management services to over 1,400 individuals in San Francisco.
Lutheran Social Services of Northern California is part of a network of nearly 300 Lutheran social ministry organizations across the country. This network of Lutheran social ministry organizations—Lutheran Services in America—constitutes one of the largest non-profit care systems nationally, with combined annual operating budgets in excess of $3.5 billion.
