Development/Admin Associate

AGENCY OVERVIEW: LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA IS A NON-PROFIT AGENCY PROVIDING SERVICES IN SUPPORTIVE HOUSING.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Development/Administrative Assistant (DAA) reports to the Development Director, providing essential assistance in attaining the annual financial goals of the organization. The DAA is a strong writer with excellent computer skills and very strong database experience, who assists the Development Director by supporting and implementing of the LSS’s fundraising activities and operations. The DAA also has strong administrative skills and supports the Administrative Office Manager with daily operations of the Concord Administration Office.

Qualifications: Successful candidate is a highly organized self-starter with the ability to meet critical deadlines while working in a high-energy, fast paced environment. Mandatory requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent work experience, strong writing and communication skills, database management skills (preferably Raisers Edge), one to two years fund-raising experience or office experience preferred, and a high level of computer literacy with Microsoft Office products.

Ability to write clearly and concisely as well as edit copy for clarity and grammatical accuracy
Attention to detail, especially in editing and proofreading
Database experience (application and management) with Raiser’s Edge or comparable software required
Ability to work well in teams and use direct communication to express needs and priorities
Strong initiative and self-starter with follow-through
Highly organized and systematic with strong time management skills and ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines
Flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
Must maintain professional appearance and demeanor
Must have ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
Punctual, reliable, accountable
Must have good people skills and a positive attitude when communicating about LSS and its work
Comfort and experience dealing with numbers and elementary math
Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds (including: staff, consumers, volunteers, donors, etc.)
Ability to travel within Bay Area and Sacramento
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed for events and donor meetings
Successfully pass a Criminal background and DMV check

DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT

Data entry for Raiser’s Edge: donor/gift entry, prepare gift acknowledgments for foundation, corporate, congregations and individual donors, and process and maintain special acknowledgement mailings with notes in database as necessary.
Become proficient with the Raisers Edge donor database and input data, access reports or donor lists as needed.
Assist Development Director with the donor cultivation activities and events and special events
In conjunction with Development Director plan, execute and track annual campaign.
Maintain monthly fund raising reports and historical files and records.
Perform duties related to Fund Development Committee and meetings, including, but not limited to: preparation of meeting materials, formation and distribution of meeting minutes, scheduling of meeting space, arrangement for refreshments and confirmation of attendees.
Under supervision of the Development Director, prepare, edit and coordinate production of internal and external communications including: annual report, newsletters and collateral materials.
Work with outside consultants in relation to annual campaign, including but not limited to: printers, graphic designers, consultants and volunteers
Solicits in-kind goods and professional services to match the needs of particular projects or programs from the community at large and area churches
Participate and provide support for fundraising activities where LSS is a beneficiary
Assist with writing grants and tracking in grants calendar submission and report due dates.
Review all church communications for database updates and church relation activities

Front Desk Reception Duties
Prepare daily deposit logs
Maintain office filing for A/P & timesheets and other projects as needed
Process mail daily and make post office runs
Maintain Office Supplies
