LSS Awarded $1
Million Grant
We received final approval yesterday for a $1 million long-term
forgiveable loan from EHAP (Emergency Housing Assistance
Program) to purchase and renovate the house next door. Once
renovated, the house will become “permanent transitional” housing
for youth aging out of the foster care system. Support services will
be offered to assist them in strengthening life skills and
transitioning from foster care to true independence or permanent
supportive housing. The home will also become a permanent address
for these youth – even after their two-year stay, Mi Casa will
remain for them a home away from home, a place to which they can
return for connection and community, their own intentional family.
LSS
Adolfo Program Will
Double Clients Served
Because of our strong success in the Adolfo program, LSS has won a
competitive bid to increase its size. We'll now be able to serve
twice as many emancipated foster youth with disabilities in
Sacramento. Most participants have never had a bank account or
written a check. They have never paid a PG&E bill, nor have they
ever planned a grocery budget.
LSS case
managers do many kinds of life skills training, including household
cleaning, grocery shopping, money management and budgeting. LSS
staff also helps clients create a positive support system. The
program assists them in moving to an independent apartment and
provides intensive case management services to help them achieve
their goals and remain in permanent housing.
Project Hope
Takes Off in Stockton
Project Hope, our brand new program in Stockton, will serve 25 to 35
youth emancipating from the foster care system, equipping these
youth with the life skills necessary to make the transition to
independent living.
We’ll begin the
intake process in the middle of July and placements will begin in
August.
